Last week during a session with a client, I said to her, “You have to break this friendship with mind-tripping!” We laughed at the truth of it. It’s a friendship we have nurtured for many years; mind-tripping is actually like our best friend! Here is my invitation and question to you: “When are you going to say, Thanks for the memories, pal but you are keeping me from my God given wisdom!” Remember, brothers and sisters, wisdom is a gift from the Creator, whoever that is to you. No one was left off the list!

Mind-tripping is the opposite of faith. It’s a lack of faith in our wisdom. There are a few spiritual facts that we can be sure of and this is the big one: you are living in a state of natural wisdom! That wisdom can not be destroyed.

Mind-tripping is our attempt to control. My next question to you is: “Is it working!” I would wager probably not. Obsessive thinking is a challenge or plight many clients come to me with. I feel for them because I have truly been there! And sure, I drop into some world-class mind-tripping once in while. But it’s another galaxy from what it use to be back in “the day”.

How do you stop it? First, under no circumstances do I suggest anyone try to control their thoughts. Instead, look for a nice feeling. I know it sounds simple. But I bet if you are in a nice feeling you very seldom find yourself in that place of obsessive thinking.

And most importantly let go of your judgment of your mind-tripping! That will be a big help, I promise you. See the humor in it. It’s our thoughts about our thoughts that get us in trouble. The most important thing I can tell you is that chatter in your head is not real! And when you take it seriously that’s what causes you sleepless nights. Just reflect back: Did that obsessive thinking ever amount to anything? I would estimate in most cases, it didn’t.

The strategies I suggest to clients are usually the opposite of what most teachers will encourage. It’s actually a non-strategy! The theme is consistent: When you are in your natural God-given nice feeling, you very seldom go to mind-tripping. You are in a place of natural self-esteem or the opposite of insecurity which is really the base of mind-tripping.

When I find myself thinking too much, I always try and take a moment and say to myself, “Ok, brother, let’s just have faith in our spiritual intelligence and let it guide us to what actions we need to take. This chatter in my head is not real, it’s coming out of fear or some need to control. A low mood!” Try this! Experiment! You can always go back to your buddy, mind-tripping! Take a trial separation! Don’t let your co-dependent thinking kick in: “But Greg, I don’t want to hurt his feelings!”

Just try, brothers and sisters! Experimenting equals validation!

How to deal with a break up? Ending a relationship is the hardest thing to do. You are looking for answers but you see none and you keep crying and getting depressed. You keep asking yourself how to deal with a break up and start to feel alone and dumped. Breaking up or getting dumped is the most painful thing you could experience in a relationship. A mutual attraction that bloomed into a joyful and lovely relationship is hard to end when one or both became uncomfortable due to a lot of reasons. It hurts and it’s hard to accept that the person you love is no longer with you now and you need to learn how to deal with a break up.

At this stage when the break up is new you have to learn how to deal with a break up. Cry if you have to, it’s alright. Allow yourself to grieve; it’s the first step of healing. For men, it’s okay to cry, you are a human being who is deeply hurt. Cry if you need too, but of course you have to be discreet and don’t just cry anywhere because people might think you are getting crazy. You are hurt but you still have the responsibility to keep your sanity and keep your self in tact.

Break ups doesn’t always mean its permanent, sometimes it does mean you and your partner need space to think things over. Getting back together after a break up needs time. Use the time and space you both have to think things over. You and your partner can think clearly and may realize the importance of getting back together.

While you have your space to find out how to deal with a break up, there are things you can do to feel better. One thing is talk to people close to you or share your feeling with someone. You will feel better if you talk about your feeling to people close to you and cry on the shoulder of a friend or a family member.

Discovering how to deal with a break up includes loving yourself more. Do not blame yourself if the relationship needs to end. It’s not your fault, relationships are complicated and most people go through rough times when it comes to relationships. If you start to blame yourself, you will get depressed and even lonelier. Think of the good qualities you have and be in the company of your friends who will always remind you of your good qualities. To know how to deal with a break up is to realize that you need to love yourself more. You need this to get through the loneliness of break ups. Take care of yourself and don’t appear too depressed and sad. To deal with a break up with positive attitude will attract positive things and you will feel better if you will only think of positive things.

While you figure out how to deal with a break up, this is also the time to enjoy and do things you want to do. If you enjoy going to the gym with your friends then do it. If you love to teach children or be involved in community work, now you have all the time to do it. You may discover new things or rediscover yourself. Give yourself time to heal and think things over. This is good for you and your partner and when you finally see each other again you may see things differently and with new perspective.

Of course the classic break up line is “it’s not you…it’s me!â€Â  What does that really mean?  Who is it, me or you?  The statement is directing us to place blame on someone in the relationship.  Although the meaning of the phrase seems clear the statement may not always mean what it sounds like it’s saying.  Let’s explore this further.

You may have used that line before when breaking up with someone.  You may have had that line used on you.  If so, what did you really mean when you said it?  What were you feeling?  If it was used on you did you believe it?  Did the other half of the relationship really have the problem? 

There may be cases where someone really believes that it’s them and not the other person.  But this line is basically a way for someone to make an attempt to let the other person down gently.  They are trying anything they can do to spare the other person’s feelings and place as much blame on ending the relationship as they can on themselves.  In this way the person being dumped may not feel as bad because, after all, it wasn’t them, it was the other person. 

When someone uses that line to end a relationship they are basically saying “I want out but I don’t want to hurt you anymore than is necessary.  I’ll take the blame so you won’t feel bad.  I’ll be the heavy.  Bottom line is I just don’t want to be with you anymore and I’ll make up a bunch of excuses to justify why it is me and not you (but really it is you). 

Let’s face it, sometimes people are just incompatible.  The spark isn’t there.  There’s no connection that will lead to a long lasting romance.  This becomes a real problem when one person feels it and the other one doesn’t.  There is no common ground to build the relationship on and eventually one half of the relationship will want out.   If they are trying to spare your feelings they start with the classics…it’s not you…it’s me.

Make Sure You Do This

The best way to agree with the LDR break up is to send your ex the proper no contact message. This not only shows them you agree with their decision to break up, but gives you back control by turning the tables. How do you turn the tables on your ex?

You stop begging and acting all hurt, and start looking like you will be moving on. Won’t that just make your ex move on too? No, people always want things that they think they can’t have, right? Since this is a LDR, your ex will not be close by to monitor your social life and this will worry them…are you seeing someone else? Sending the proper NC message is the best way to react to a long distance relationship break up.

Are wondering “how do I break up with my girlfriend” knowing that you have to end your relationship but knowing it is going to hurt her and cause a chaotic mess to your lives and emotions? Do you dread having to say the words “It’s over” but want to do this in the best way so you won’t seem like a monster and will allow you to live and love again without restriction?

I hear you as I was in the same boat myself and all I could think of was how other friends of mine had been through horror break ups. I did however learn from their experiences and compiled a list of things you should NOT do that will make this process a little easier.

1. Do not break up over the phone

This is a cowardly way to dump your girl and shows a lack of respect for her and for yourself that you could not make the effort to do this face to face where you do not have the luxury of hanging up or avoiding looking in her eyes as you say the words. If you are so scared that you do this over the phone then you are probably not ready to do this yet.

2. Do not break up with a text message

As above but 10 times worse! Even if you offer to meet with them to talk about it later, never announce the break up without having the courage to do it face to face.

3. Do not make any elaborate lies

Sometimes it may seem easier to make up some white lies to try to make them feel better but those quickly spiral out of control and will not help. You will either be found out now or later and again shows a lack of respect for yourself and your girl.

4. Do not try to get them to break up with you

The perfect crime huh, engineer it so THEY break up with you! Have you ever seen this work apart from terrible romantic comedies and sitcoms? The time and effort you put into this could be much better spent finding the right way to break up while minimizing the hurt because something is bound to go wrong and you will quickly snap back into the relationship you do not want.

5. Do not try any cliche break up lines

“Its not you its me” or “I love you, but I’m not “in love” with you.” or “I’m not good enough for you” are bad news. Your relationship is going to be different to someone else’s so don’t, use other peoples lines … especially ones as bad as those. How you break the news must be tailored to your situation and her particular moods and expectations. Terrible pick up liens don’t, work and generic bad break up lines just cause more problems!
